LANGUAGE TOOLS AND PROTOCOLS

In our group we have people who speak Portuguese, French, Spanish, Romanian, Hungarian and English as their first language. There is not even one language that we all share!

In this online space I propose that we use both our social skills and some online tools to to include everyone in all the conversations and to make sure that we are included. We will also use a system of "tags" (explained below). Above all we will need to be inventive. I think it could be a rewarding and frustrating process. It will certainly be one with lots of learning opportunities.

Here are my suggestions for our conversations in different languages. We can add to the ideas and we can change them as we go along. There is a room for discussion this in the forum.

FERRAMENTAS DE LÍNGUA E PROTOCOLOS

No nosso grupo temos pessoas que falam Português, Frances, Espanhol, Romeno, Hungaro e Inglês como língua materna. Não existe uma língua partilhada por todos nós!

Neste espaço online proponho que aproveitarmos ambos as nossos competências sociais e algumas ferramentas para incluir todos nas conversas e para se auto-incluir. Também vamos usar uma sistema de "tags" (explicação em baixo). Sobre tudo temos de ser inventivos. Penso que pode ser um processo récompensador e frustrante.De certeza que vai oferecer muitas oportunidades para aprender.

USING THE TOOLS

1. Own language interface.
I have set the site interface to your first language. If you want to change this, click: My account/Edit - choose your language.

2. Google whole site translation.
If you click on the flag, it will translate everything on the site FROM ENGLISH to that language. NOTE: it only works for things that are written in English. It gives a nonsense translation for other languages.

3. Choose specific messages or texts that you want to translate and use the Google translator tool (http://www.google.com/translate_t). You can also have the translation function in your Google toolbar (http://www.google.com/tools/firefox/toolbar/index.html) making it easier to use.

The Google translator tool can be used for translating between all our languages except Romanian and Hungarian. To translate between all our languages, including Romanian and Hungarian, use the Intertran translator on this page: http://translation.langenberg.com/

UTILIZANDO AS FERRAMENTAS

1. Interface na sua própria língua.
O site está na sua línga materna. Se quiser mudar, click: My account/Edit - choose your language.

2. Google - tradução do conteudo do site.
Cliqua na bandeira e o Google traduz tudo que está escrito em Inglês para a tal língua. NOTA: Só funciona para as mensagens escritas em inglês. A tradução fica sem sentido para as outras.

3. Escolhe mensagens ou textos que quer traduzir e aproveita o Google translator (http://www.google.com/translate_t). Pode instalar esta ferramento na Google toolbar, se desejar. (http://www.google.com/tools/firefox/toolbar/index.html)

USING OUR SOCIAL SKILLS

This is what I have observed about good international online communicators. Their practices could be helpful for us.

Good international communicators

•. use more than one language.
•. are not afraid of making mistakes in another language.
•. translate difficult expressions to another language.
•. translate other people's messages.
•. take more time to try and interpret what someone has written.
•. write short rather than long messages.
•. use their imagination to write and to interpret messages
•. use pictures and other ways of communicating.

AS COMPETÊNCIAS SOCIAIS

Isto é o que notei sobre bons "online" comunicadores internacionais. As praticas deles podem nos ajudar.

Eles:

• usam mais de uma língua.
• não têm receio de cometer erros noutra língua
• traduzem expressões difíceis para outra lingua
• traduzam as mensagens de outras pessoas
• tomem o tempo necessario para interpretar o que foi escrito
• escrevem mensagens breves
• utilizam a imaginação para escrever e interpretar mensagens
• utilizam imagens e outras maneiras de comunicar.

USING TAGS

You will notice that you are asked to choose "tags" when you post a message. Tags are the key words of your message. For example, the tags I will use for this message are: language, communication, inventive, tools, social skills. Please do the same with the messages that you post. Your tags can be in the language of your post and/or in another language.

UTILIZAÇÃO DOS TAGS

Vai reparar ao mandar uma mensagem que lhe vai ser pedido para escolher "tags". As "tags" são as palavras chaves da sua mensagem. Por exemplo, os tag para esta mensagem serão: língua, comunicação, inventivo, ferramentas, competencias sociais. Por favor façem o mesmo com as mensagens que enviarem. Vossas "tags" podem serem na lingua da mensagem e/ou em outra lingua.
